Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information Somewhere for Two, a sole proprietorship based in North Carolina, United States ("we," "us," or "our"), collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using our website or purchasing a product, you agree to this Policy.
1. Information We Collect
- Information you give us. To create your map, we collect the names and birth details (date, time, and place of birth) of you and your partner, your delivery email address, and any preferences or notes you share (such as travel vibe, budget, climate, or must-haves).
- The free reading. The free reading on our site works the same way. To draw it we collect both of your names, both sets of birth details (date, time, and place of birth), the city where you met, and your email address. We keep those details to draw your reading and so you do not have to enter them again if you order a map later. We do not sell your birth details or your reading, and we never send either of them to an advertiser. We do use a scrambled version of your email address to measure our own ads, which is described in section 6, and you can switch that off. You can ask us to delete them at any time (see “Your Rights”).
- Your partner’s details. A map takes two charts, so whoever orders gives us the other person’s name and birth details as well. If that is you and you did not do the ordering: you can write to us and ask what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, exactly as if you had entered it yourself. If you ask us to delete it, we delete it, and we will not tell you who ordered the map. That is between the two of you.
- Payment information. When you buy a product, our payment processor (Stripe) collects your payment details directly. We receive confirmation of payment and limited billing information, but we do not store your full card number.
- Automatically collected information. Like most websites, we may collect basic technical information such as your browser type, device, and general usage through our hosting provider and any analytics we use.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To create, produce, and deliver your personalized map.
- To communicate with you about your order and provide customer support.
- To process payments and prevent fraud.
- To operate, maintain, and improve our website and products.
- To draw and show you the free reading you asked for, and to reply if you write back.
- To send you updates or offers only if you have opted in, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
3. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with trusted service providers who help us run our business, and only as needed, including:
- Stripe takes the payment. Your card details go to Stripe directly and we never see the full number.
- Netlify hosts the website, and Render runs the engine that does the chart calculations.
- Anthropic provides the AI model that writes the words in your reading. It receives your two first names, your home city, and the chart positions we calculated. It does not receive your birth dates or your birth times.
- Resend sends the email your map arrives in, so it handles your email address and the message.
- Microsoft Clarity measures how the site is used, and Meta measures our advertising. Both are described in section 6 and both can be turned off.
The last two are different in kind from the rest, because they are about measuring rather than about making your map. You can turn them off and still buy a map. Nothing about the product changes.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of Somewhere for Two or others.
4. Data Retention
Birth details are the most personal thing we hold, so here is the actual timetable rather than “as long as necessary.”
- Your map and the details behind it: we keep them while your keepsake link is live, so you can go back to it. Ask us to delete and we delete both.
- Free reading details: two years, so you do not have to type them again if you come back. Ask sooner and they go sooner.
- Order and payment records: seven years, because tax and accounting rules want them kept. This is the receipt, not your birth details.
- Email address, if you asked for updates: until you unsubscribe.
To delete any of it, email hello@somewherefortwo.com. We will do it and write back to say it is done.
5. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, and to opt out of marketing. To make a request, email us at hello@somewherefortwo.com. We will respond within a reasonable time. If you are in California, you have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know and delete your information and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. If you are in the EU/UK, you have rights under the GDPR/UK GDPR.
6. Cookies, Analytics and Advertising
We use cookies and similar technologies to help the website function, to understand how it is used, and to measure our advertising. A notice appears on your first visit. If you are visiting from the UK or Europe, nothing loads until you choose “Go ahead”. Everywhere else they load when you arrive and the notice tells you so, and you can stop them at any time. Either way, if you turn them off they stop and will not load again.
Microsoft Clarity. An analytics tool from Microsoft that shows us how visitors move through the site so we can make it better. Being straight about what it is: it records your session, so we can replay the mouse movement, clicks and scrolling of a visit, along with what was on the screen. It hides what you type into form fields, and we do not run it at all on the pages where you enter birth details (the free reading, the intake page and the gift pages). It may set cookies. You can turn it off with the Cookie preferences link in the footer of any page, and you can read more in Microsoft’s own privacy documentation.
The Meta pixel. We advertise on Facebook and Instagram, and we use a Meta pixel to see whether those ads actually work. When it is active it tells Meta that a visit, a free reading or a purchase happened on our site, along with technical information such as your device, browser and IP address. Meta may use that to measure our ads and to show ads to people like you. Under some US state privacy laws, including California’s, this counts as “sharing” personal information for targeted advertising, even though no money changes hands. We do not sell your personal information, and we never send Meta the birth details or the reading itself.
Reporting from our server. Because browsers increasingly block advertising tools, we also report the same events to Meta directly from our server rather than from your browser. When we do, we include a scrambled (hashed) version of your email address so Meta can tell whether the same person saw our ad, and your IP address and browser type. We never send your actual email address, your birth details or your reading. Each event carries an identifier so that a report from your browser and a report from our server are counted once, not twice. If you choose “Stop it”, we send nothing from our server either.
How to turn it off. On the notice, choose “Options”. That opens two switches, one for the usage analytics and one for the advertising measurement, so you can turn off either or both. There is also a “Turn both off” button that does it in a single click. Whatever you choose takes effect immediately and is remembered. If you are visiting from the UK or Europe, the notice instead offers “Stop it” directly, and nothing runs unless you choose “Go ahead”. If you have already dismissed the notice and want to change your mind, use the Cookie preferences link in the footer of any page, which reopens it. You can also control cookies through your browser settings, and we honour Global Privacy Control signals where your browser sends them.
7. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children
The Service is intended for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. Changes become effective when posted with a new effective date.
